  1. I think its wrong for China to try to publicly hide truth that everybody has the right to know. they should respect natural rights, such as the freedom of speech, and not lock up people who have individual oppinions. I also think that China is wrong to argue against giving a peace prize to one of thier refuges, when that refuge has been wrongly imprisoned. I hope that China will eventually change thier wrong un-free ways, and let people have a democracy in China. I also hope that they will let him get the Nobel Peace Prize, as he deserves it.

  2. I don't think the people are going to react very well to everrything going on. I says how other countries are trying to use this downtime to attack china.

  3. I think that it is ironic to be fighting over a peace prize because the prise is for peace and your o having peace is you keep arguing with each other who gets the prize.

  4. I think it is pretty ridiculous that people are fighting over a peace prize. It is supposed to stand for peace and not fighting over it. The chinese government will not let Liu Xiaobo's wife accept the peace prize for his work on the politics confronting the chinese governmen, and has put her on house arrest. I think the whole thing is out of hand and they should let her accept the prize.

  5. I King of All declare that this article is baised in the sense that we live in a country with unalienable rights that are unable to be taken from the government so we think that this a bad gesture by the chinese government. This article only shows quotes from the Pro Charter 08 people and does not show enough Anti- Charter 08 views. However, this article shows many validated points and a very well written news article.

  6. I think China should not have the right to withold a nobel prize from it's rightful owner. The recipient of this award is not in jail because he stole or hurt someone else. He is only there because he tried to have his ideas heard. He was trying to bring about the idea of political reform, human rights guarentees, and an independent judicial system. These are all valid topics, and he deserves an award for proposing this and trying to open China's eyes to a new way to look at different aspects of their society. It is a very big issue that the citizens in China have to live in fear of expressing themselves and their opinions. A society in which the people have no say is a society that will never change or grow/develop in any shape or form. ~Emily Elefonte

  7. Its so ironic that Liu X. was jailed over expressing his thoughts, and that the government thinks that its disgraceful towards chinese to let him get his peace prize. in my opinion the fact that the Chinese govt doesnt allow freedom of speech makes them a weaker country despite the fact that theyre a leader in hte world economy. the really ironic part is that the government jailed him for trying to make china a better place (the reason hes getting hte peace prize). I feel bad for his wife because the govt has practally trapped her in her home, maybe if the story gets enough press theyll let Liu get his award to avoid the negative press. the one thing i didnt understand was why a communist party signed his petition, its contradictory.

  8. It is very ironic that people are arguing over the Peace Prize. But if we were to look at the point of view on the Chinese government, it is a very important that if a person who convicted criminal to get the Peace Prize because if he got that prize, it will tells the whole China that the thing he had done is right. If that happened the whole China will do the same thing and China will be in bad conditions, and also it will lead to make wars possibly.

  9. I think that it is ironic that there's arguement over a Peace Prize. Liu Xiaobo was arrested for promoting democratic government so it was pretty certain China would do something. I just think that it's pretty sad that Mr. Liu can't even properly earn the prize because of the country's government. China's determined to keep its political views unswayed so they censored Mr. Liu's works and were accusing that the Nobel Prize was an attempt to sway their government. It's unfair how someone can't get the Nobel Award because of something like this. I think that Mr. Liu does deserve the Nobel Award because he's protesting against China's government and promoting democracy.

  10. To my opinion I think that it is very ironic that Liu Xiaobo was jailed for trying to make China a better place. I think that it is pretty upseting that after Liu Xiaobo had tried to promote democratic government and is now facing 11 years in prison, that he can't receive the Noble Peace prize. However, I do understand Chinas view in this situation about how giving him the Noble Peace prize is wrong because China has strict laws and if Liu were to receive the prize it would then show that other citizens of China can also promote different beliefs.

  11. I think it is quite ridiculous how China is creating a big fuss over this Nobel Peace Prize. This is something that should be taken as respectable and honorable- the fact that a citizen of their country received a national award. And that too, make their country a better place for all...a place that will be respected even more by the World. He was only trying to help. Moreover, I feel that China is misusing their power. They don't have any right to suppress someone due to the the fact that they are expressing their views in a non-violent way- which is being heard by all. Hopefully, this problem will be resolved- and Mr. Liu will gain his respect/ dignity back. (Pd. 6)

  12. I believe that limiting what people have the right to know is completely unethical. The government should not hide things from its citizens.I don't see how this could be used to attack China's government.

  13. I think that China is unfair to their people, not allowing them to speak freely of what is on their mind. I also think that there is no point in fight about the peace pirze, when the whole point was that Liu Xiaobo brought peace to china. ~ Nickie Kang

  14. I think China is being totally ridiculous about this and it's very irritating as to how they're acting. A Nobel Prize should be a reward of honor, not as something that is going against the government. Not only is Liu Xia affected, but so is his wife! This is just ridiculous, and it goes to show how far the Chinese government is willing to go just to keep control of the country.

  15. Liu Xiaobo was only trying to bring peace to China and let it succeed as a country. However, his plan was not recognized as what others would call heroic. Thus the result of being sent to prison for eleven years. Ironically, Mr. Lui was to be given a noble peace prize and this was postponed due to his outspoken mind of trying to make China a better country. The government thinks otherwise of him recieving this award for speaking of his ideas and thoughts. The way CHina doesn't have freedom of speech hurts the country of China polliticaly and socially. This is very ironic of him of going to jail for expressing how he feels for peace throughout CHina and how the government would not give Mr. Lui the noble peace prize. I think the people are making too much of a big deal over this; he is not a bad man nor a dangerous one at that. All he wanted to achieve was to bring peace to thie country.

  16. I think it was completely wrong for the Chinese government to censor Mr. Lius blog because he has a right to write whatever he wants. For them to put him in jail for 11 years is unbelievable. Just because they don't like this individuals new ideas doesn't mean they should throw him in jail just for the hell of it. They took away his right of Freedom of Speech - AHakimian

  17. i feel that is was completely wrong that the govenment had sensored Mr. Lui's had the right to blog what ever he wants because of the right of freedom of speech. i also feel that is was completely unfair becase Mr. Lui was sentenced to an eleven year sentence and everyone else was on house arrest

  18. I think that China is very wrong in jailing a man who for writing his ideas on his countries government. Perhaps freedom of speech isnt welcomed in China but jailing someone for doing so it pretty messed up. It is also unfair that China wont let the wife pick up the award that rightfully belongs to their family.

  19. This article kind of reminds me of Galileo. He discovered some interesting evidence that the Earth isn't the center of the universe (against what the Church believed), but Galileo was put under house arrest. The Church didn't like the fact that they could've been wrong, and China as well didn't like that someone (Mr. Liu) was trying to challenge their authority a bit. I believe that it is ironic that people are arguing over the Peace Prize. It shows us how lucky we are to be living in the U.S. where we can say what we want and believe in anything without being severely punished. It's also like how during the Enlightenment, books were burned and philosophers' ideas weren't spread because the Church didn't support them. However, if those ideas would have spread throughout the world, our world could've changed for the better. So, if the Chinese government would have listened to Charter 08, they could benefit from various reforms and have a stronger government and a better country.

  20. This article is an example of the censorship methods used by China. I thought it was ludicrous that someone who was awarded the Nobel accolade would be a convicted criminal. Mr. Liu was accused of trying to change China's judicial system in his documents, Chapter 08, but I was very upset about the issue of his arrest. Chinese politicians, I believe, are very radical about their ideals, since they don't want reform at all.

  21. Fighting for the peace price! HA! How ironic. What really bothers me is that they put his wife under house arrest. For what? What did she do that they are making her life miserable! Liu Xiaobo was just trying to speak his mind not by protesting or anything that could get violent but in an ESSAY, just words and he was punished for that. But i guess its China choice right? If China wants to bend their people backwards, sooner or later there will be a war, when the people strike back. When that happens we can help the people all we want, but right now nothing is going to help Liu Xiaobo and his wife.

  22. I think it's ridiculous how China still censors anything that might make the people think they are in need of a change. That's because they do need change and the government knows that. The pro-democratic dissident is in jail for his ideas and essays that asks for positive change in the government. When people are looking for change and your hiding it, there's a pretty good chance a change is actually needed. I think this is just like the Tienanmen Square incident where China tried to hide it from the people. I think this is where China crossed the line, jailing someone for opinions, and that they should really consider the revision they need on their government system.

  23. I think its ironic that they are arguing over a nobel peace prize. However in their own views, China's government is doing the right thing. According to their rules the recipient broke the law and if he is awarded for breaking the law, then other chinese citizens will feel the same way. They will start doing the same thing and soon the whole country will rebel and there will be a revolution. In order to mantain peace in their country it is important for the government to do this.
