Is Privacy Still Old School?

There is a constant generational argument on whether privacy matters. Here is another viewpoint.

  1. Privacy should matter for a person because they do not intend to share their information and search history to companies in order for them to greedily share their product. i believe that search history shouldn't be saved or shared at all because it can be potentially embarrassing and can reveal a lot about a person

  2. I think back when the word got out the NSA was reading our emails, listening in on our phone calls and even going through our search history it made the American people really rethink how much privacy they really had. Once they heard this they were outraged they had no privacy. I as well was also kind of mad but then again who wants to listen to a conversation between two immature teenagers whining about school. But for most adults they were appalled. In this article they mention how gathering the search history is only to gather information and then bombard you with adds. They mention if it is such a big problem, which it is for many people then you can turn history off for searches and website browsing. But one thing they fail to mention is even if you turn off history you can't completely cover your tracks you will always leave something behind on the websites. We are now in a new age of technology and we have more interesting and more entertaining devices we can use. Also the internet as come a long way from its original start and same goes for social media. Technology has really advanced but that came at a price of our privacy.

  3. I find that extremely scary that someone can know what i am searching on the internet. I don't want someone to know that because anyone can use that against me and find out where and what I am doing. Even though I clear my history I feel like it has already been stored in some data base which I don't find safe at all even though I have nothing to hide.

  4. At first I didn't realize how bad and damaging your history can be but after reading this article, I realize how many different people can view your own personal history. I believe this is not right because the things you put on your history are personal and should be kept private. Those things shouldn't be available for the public to access because they don't need to know about your personal life. If the government wants to view your history, they are the only people I feel that should be allowed to view your history then.

  5. i mean even though there are safe search engines out there, it would take me a while to get used to them. I would still prefer google over a website called duckduckgo

  6. There is never really a privacy. If you try to be strict, every little thing around you can concern privacy. Therefore do not be paranoid on this kind of issue. Nobody could even measure the extent of it. Everything is changing in time. Whatever is right in nowadays may not always be right tomorrow.

  7. I really liked this article, i always knew that the government always had their "eye" on everyone, but i never put the connection between what i search on google is equivalent to the adds i see when I'm online shopping. I was OK with the fact that they now had our fingerprint on the new iphone5s, and they listened to every conversation i ever had on the phone, and honestly, Its very sad that the government has come to terms with this, i guess they don't think they can trust anyone after past events like 9/11. This article put pieces of the puzzles together for me, now whenever I online shop I'm going to be looking at the ads more precisely.

  8. This is such an informative article. I like how it told us the cons of not deleting your history. Usually people just leave it how it is thinking that everything is going to be okay. However it is true. Your history page has everything on it from our interests to our mental health to even our travel locations. It is a great idea that Microsoft, Google and Bing have taught us to delete our things. I will definitely use this for my deleting my history on my computer and laptop.

  9. everyone should basically be careful what you search if you have to share a computer. privacy was kinda lost after technology became so popular. but the deleting history was helpful in a way.

  10. I find this very violating because you have to go to a certain setting to turn off your history from saving on the web browser databases. Most people have no idea that the web browsers save your history. It should just be on a personal computer.

I think that this article is very interest and never had any idea the government and other people can track what i search on a search engine.. that stuff can get private and now i knoe to be careful with what I search because not only my eyes are looking at it. They have different ways to sort of prevent it but it doesnt fully take compaines out from looking at whats popular in your search engine. They are all in it for money honestly.

  12. This can be a problem because killers will be able to people based on what they like. They can lure them in and kill them. This is a major problem, and if past history is not deleted who knows the amount of stuff murders can get. Also people need privacy. I know nothing on the Internet id privet, but what you search can be. That stuff can be personal, and you would defiantly not want other people to find out what you search.

  13. im surprised that search engines give me appropriate ads based on what i have searched in the past and that those companies make can make money from people using the search engines only. and i agree with the argument because no one knows what's going to happen because of the tiny search history, and even if nothing happens, embarrassing or potentially harmful history feels quite uncomfortable.

  14. I think that this is a very good idea. People should not have the right to look through your history. It's just very uncomfortable to me and to probably be to everybody else. I am very relieved that they have found a way to prevent random people from viewing your history

  15. I think that it is important to keep peoples search history private. I think that it is an invasion of privacy that peoples searches are saved and can be viewed. It was interesting to learn of how to maintain your search history because I did not know how to do that before. This add had a lot of interesting people in it that gave valid data on the subject so I think it made the article very strong. This had a lot of useful tips that I think it is important for everyone to know so they can maintain their privacy.

  17. with the technology we have now its almost impossible to have something kept private. this in many ways can be very bad. much of your personal information is just stored away in some random hard drive that some people can obtain. with this information they can pretty much pretend to be you and hack your whole life. keeping things private and making sure you are the only one who knows your information is important in keeping control of your own life.

  18. having privacy is very important especially to adults who have a family and a stable job. also to kids who need to get a job and want to start a family. privacy has become harder to obtain with the internet now but there are ways to obtain it but no one knows how or was taught how. i think privacy is important and the article will teach you that. but in the same way having all your search history and having it be a way ads find you or things that would interest you find you isn't such a bad thing.

  19. This article is shocking because of how true it is. I always noticed how when i search something in google, I will then find ads for that product on websites like Facebook or YouTube. It surprises me how your computer is able to do this. I feel like it's a cool thing, but when you think of it in a privacy point of view, it could be a little scary. The fact that companies can track your searches and everything to your I.P address doesn't make me comfortable. It's that easy to find out where someone is living and what they're searching and all their personal information.

  20. Privacy is rare today. The internet seems to have more information on its two billions plus users than people can even remember about themselves. This information, does have its small ups in that you can sometimes find websites that will be more appealing to you, but you have to watch out because it has a very strong down side too. This information that you type into the the computer, the things you ask, and say, all reflect on who you are and can be used against you. Personal information can be embarrassing. Also, make sure you don't type in anything that could make it seem like you may be breaking the law. That to of course could hurt you. Just be careful. Every little thing you put out there is permanent. The internet is a scarier place than it seems.

  21. I think that since we are in internet world, privacy is something important to keep. But nothing is something that we can actually call safe. So i think it's just matter of time until all privacy becomes public.
