  1. I do feel that work places really need to be fun because if there wasn't any fun people would not want to come to work. As be being a senior i feel like i have recently tried to find a field in which i would enjoy. I don't want to be going to work everyday in the future and hating it. I do want to enjoy what i am doing. I feel that when people have fun at work they show more improvement in what they are doing.

  2. I think that this article talks about having fun at work. We should all have some interest at wherever we work. When we do have fun at work it shows through what we do. However we should not have too much fun. There is a fine line between having fun and going crazy at work. As a senior I would where somewhere that interests me and somewhere that I am willing to go everyday.

  3. I found this article very interesting. I agree that most jobs are "bullshit" and are not needed. I related to when he said people work 40-50 hours a week but are only productive for about 15 hours. At my job, I work about 7 hours a day but I'm only actually being productive for about 1 or 2 hours, which is all that is truely necessary. Although jobs are pointless, I find it reasonable to have them because we have to employ people one way or another. There are alternative ways to run things but people need to make an income somehow.

  4. I think that it is great that people are trying to make the work place a fun enviornment. People should be able to look foward to going to work when they enjoy their job and therefore could be more productive at work.

  6. i dont agree with this article because i think people can have fun at work with out pretending and trying to avoid meltdowns. having a good time at work will help employees do their job better and enjoying going to work even if it is something they dont like to do or dont want to do.

  7. I think that a workplace should be fun because when you enjoy going to work you usually work better, show up on time, and call in sick less. This is all important for a successful business because happy workers generally thrive. I understand why bosses would push this fun factor, but the problem is that they are pushing it. It's like when a teacher tries too hard to make a boring class fun, it doesn't actually work. With employers cramming happiness and fun down their employee's throats they will end up just pissing the employees off and causing the exact opposite of what they actually want. When you enjoy what you do work doesnt feel like work, and then you'll never work a day in your life, but not all jobs can be that way, and some bosses need to understand that.

  8. it's true that forcing happiness on workers isn't the right way to go because they're most probably not enjoying themselves already, adding that unnecessary stress just makes them feel worse about themselves. It could also make them like they have to be happy all the time which could make certain workers feel depressed and lethargic. It's almost like when teachers try to make kids have fun in a class they obviously hate, it's most probably not going to work and they all hate it.

  9. These jobs that are created for society are pointless because it’s just the sake of giving people work. This concept of jobs are not making a meaningful contribution to today’s world because these jobs are not necessary. This is how money is being spent unwisely, where it can be used for other important purposes. Jonathan Moreira pd3

  10. It is important to be happy while you are working for your job. jobs can be stressful and exhausting. i agree that managers should concentrate on creating the conditions in which a variety of personality types because then people would work harder and enjoy what they do more. If someone is sitting at a desk all day and not enjoying what they do they probably wont work as hard as they would if they liked it. But studies show that sometimes having fun at work can slow down the productivity.

  11. Most people work because they need money. Not all jobs are technically a fun job to do but you have to do it. if you love what you do, you jib in not so much a job because you want to be there. If you hate what you do, you kinda have no choice about going and working. I hope that i find a job that i love so i can enjoy myself in years to come and not dread coming to work.

  12. To most people they work to make money. Not a lot of people actually enjoy their job because of the stress and because they'd rather have a stable job that provides than have a job than doesnt bring in a lot of money. Those that have fun at work sometimes come off as irresponsible. I'd rather do something i love than something i hate very much. I don't want to live my life doing something I hate.

  14. I think it depends who you work with or who your boss is or the people surrounding you in general that make you who you are at work. A lot of people just have to do it to make the money and that is basically their only motivation. I don't believe making work "fun" is going to help because at the end of the day you just want money.

  15. this really makes me laugh. all the things they try to do to improve happiness is tack and no adult in their right mind would enjoy that (except maybe the doughnuts). but the work place is not made to force fun onto people, its to make progress. also why would people at work who may hate their job want to be forced to have fun? that would just annoy me.

  17. It's true how many people really do go to work to have fun? People just go to work to make money. Today there's only a very few amount of people who go to work because they enjoy it. With businesses trying to make work fun for people isn't really helping anyone. Letting them design their own cubicle isn't exactly fun you're just giving them a more comfortable working environment so they will work harder. I feel like if they're just trying to make work fun to just have them work harder so the higher ups can make money.

  18. This article I found enjoyable to read because I agree with the concept of making work fun or having a fun job. Now deciding on where to go to college and figuring out what I want to do as a career is stressful because I want to make sure I am going to do something that will pay good money and that I will enjoy. And this article is about making work fun, I had many thoughts throughout the article on the topic of how to make work fun or how some jobs were fun now there not. Go into a career you enjoy and if you dont like it, change your major but if you don't like it when your there, go to a different office; that is the way i see it. Also, there was a comment about that the idea of making work fun, is ridiculous or useless, I was taken back because why wouldn't you want to go to a place and not enjoy it. It is your life so why waste it doing something you don't enjoy.

  19. Everybody wants to have a job where they can make good money and have fun doing it. Although this rarely happens. Many times bosses of companies try to influance employees to have fun it doesn't usually work. It often does the opposite, it decreases productivity in the work place and most employees don't agree with the way things are being run. Studies have shown that trying to have fun in the workplace and maintain work ethic is almost impossible,

  20. Having an enjoyable job is important because dreading every waking moment of one's day is sad. Being happy is extremely important and if one isn't happy at their job they need to reevaluate their job choices. If someone dreads the week days and then spends their weekend dreading sunday night, then they need to get a new job and pursue their happiness and satisfaction in their job! If i was upset with my job i would immediately go job hunting all over again. Misery isn't good for anyone at all!

If I was unhappy in my work place I probably would switch jobs or change my profession. I encourage jobs that frown upon sad faces. They even stated happier employeese work better. But they have to take the job seriously still and I think Im capable of doing so. I like to have fun but I also get my job done when it needs to be.

  24. I liked this article because i do agree with the author. when he says that if you do try too hard to make the workplace a "fun" place there wont be much work getting done. however, I dont think the workplacce should even be a "fun" place. Your job is your job, and should be taken seriously. Its acceptable to have fun at the office and have friends etc, but they shouldnt be rating their happiness from 1-10. thats just childish, atleast, thats what i think.

  25. Fun and work are hardly related. If you can find something that you are able to make money while enjoying doing it, you are the real lucky person. Some think happiness is only for the lucky and it is true in this way. Serious people call to stop making work fun. I think they are missing the point. People can find fun while being serious and doing a good job.

  28. Although work isnt a place that your supposed to go to have "fun" and mess around, i do believe that you can enjoy yourself in the workplace. When people chose a career to do for the rest of their lives they usually pick something that they are interested in. By doing this, it can cause you to enjoy going to work everyday and not dread waking up every morning. So while some people arent neccesarily having "fun" at work, i do believe that people should do their best to make going to work everyday enjoyable

The job you have should be something you enjoy and want to do everyday but people get sick of there jobs. i think that no one has "fun" doing there jobs because they get tired of going everyday doing the same thing. if people hate there job nothing would change there mind to make it "fun" because they are already sick of the job.

  31. You can't excel in something you don't relatively like. If you join a job and it's for money not because you like it and for money, you wont be making the money you could be. If someone that woks with you likes his job and you don't like the job he will have a higher chance of getting that promotion or maybe you make more money but to them they enjoy their day and that's more important then having a higher pay. Money doesn't equal happiness but money and happiness is a very good thing.

  40. This article teaches you the importance of how your workplace impacts your life. If you work in a place you enjoy, you will be happy and be successful. If you don't like where you work and what job you have your life will take the wrong path and you wont succeed. There may be a job you get offered that you might not like but that's part of life and you have to work through it because if you are miserable that's a recipe for disaster.

  41. I agree with the article and feel like people should do jobs which they enjoy. When people are passionate about something, they usually are more motivated to work hard and help their workplace thrive. This is one of the key points of success for employers. It is always important for them to look for employees who will be efficient and dedicated towards what they do. As the article stated, “There’s nothing wrong with happiness at work.” Many people think of going to work as a burden and usually just go for the sake of making money. However, if people were actually interested in what they did, perhaps they would be more willing to go out and put in more effort. This is why I didn’t agree with the statement, “Instead of striving to make work fun, managers should concentrate on creating the conditions in which a variety of personality types, from the excitable to the naturally downbeat, can flourish.” This I believe to be untrue because it is almost impossible to get people who are passionless to being really enthusiastic. This is why I believe that it is vital that employers try and make work fun for those who demonstrate a positive attitude. In the long run, this will end up benefiting them. Employees should respect their work and their bosses, and the bosses should also demonstrate care and affection for their employees. This then creates an equilibrium between employees and bosses, which is essential for a positive work atmosphere.

I disagree with article about how fun is not important. If someone does have fun in there job, thing will lead the wrong way for you. Having a fun job is where it should make everyone happy. Without any fun the worker would not have any thing done for their job and they might lose their job. So everyone should get a job that they like and have fun.

  43. This article showed the importance of enjoyment and fun in the workplace. In the article it said when your at work you better and you are more efficient the reason for that is because then you like what you are doing and enjoying it unlike you are sulking while you at work because its boring and you hate it. This why in the article the bosses were pushing to try and make the workplace a fun place. But the problem was only the workers can determiner and realize that what they are doing is fun for the most part. So not matter how hard a boss tries to make work fun it won't work unless the employee finds it fun. Take school as an example. In class when you like the subject the time passes quickly and your having fun and doing good. But on the other hand when you don't like a class it takes longer to go by and you don't do as well in the class. And the same thing applies for many things that people do. So having fun and enjoyment in the workplace is a good thing.

  44. I think it is important for people to have fun at work. If they don’t then what motivation will they have to do well for the job, or come to the job. I think that happy people will preform better and have better costomer service when needed. I don’t agree with some of the statements that are made here but I think that the author has excellent counters with even better rebuttals that make the argument really strong and convicing, but not enough to have me convinced.

  45. It seems like what is being said here is that enjoying your work and trying to find joy in work are two very different ways of going about a job. I agree with this. If you are constantly searching for fun in something that is tedious, you will only begin to loath your work more. On the other hand, if you truly enjoy what you do, then you won't be trapped in a search for fun, leading to actual enjoyment, and an increased rate of productivity.
