Russians Defeat Napoleon!!

The 1812 Overture commemorates the Russian defeat of Napoleon. Read the notes from class as you listen to this piece. Play it loud and enjoy!

  1. I did not really enjoy the song that much because it was too long and it was classical. I kept expecting for someone to start singing.

  2. I sort of understand why you wanted us to listen to the song while we read along. it matches to the article emotionly. i really liked how it started out really peacful but then all of a sudden war music started and then shortly afterwards the Russians national anthem came on as well. it really fitted with the article. 3. I like how the music starts off slow but then gets more intense. It displays the emotions that the french have felt during this time musically. It tells a story as it progresses. Near the end of the song the French national anthem plays, I think that symbolizes the victory they felt. Having pride in being French.

  4. I think its cool how a song with no lyrics can convey such a message. It goes from lavish sounding music that monarchs would listen to fast paced war and revolution type music. Then about halfway in there is a pause and then Napoleon is introduced. My favorite part was when the strong, loud music played and the Kremlin was shown, commemorating the Russian victory over Napoleon.
