Audi R8 5.2 FSI Spyder

Would you recognize history when you experience it?

Ok, so this one is not so current. However, I still think the idea of history as a living, breathing concept is intriguing. In addition, I enjoy exuberant and colorful writing. The car aside, read and enjoy.

  1. To me a car fanatic this is an amazing article the detail in which the author describes the car is amazing. You can not recognize history at first glance or at experiencing it; that is because if you look at something feel it and get a sense for what it is and you cant do that from a few moments, you don’t get to absorb all of the emotions that went in and all of the different designs and different objects have gone in to the production of this one item. In order to recognize history through experience in this case, you would have to dig a little deeper in order to find what it really is but once you do you will really be able to enjoy the object.

  2. When reading this article, I thought I was well aware of the way technology was making history. For instance, tablets like the IPad are things that people earlier in the last decade have not even seen. What I did not know was the fact that there are other things around us that are constantly changing. When it came to cars I thought that while there would be many different kinds with new entertainment features, it will always do pretty much the same thing, running on gas and going around 30 miles per gallon. Well I mean I have seen different unique cars in technology class but the cars shown were custom made one of a kind, cars that only billionaires could afford. Hearing that these cars by the companies Audi and Porsche, companies that I could recognize, would run 78 miles per hour or up to 100 horsepower per liter was cool. These companies are much more affordable in comparison to the other custom fuel efficient cars I had seen. It was also surprising that the company Audi would be selling around 600 of their car a year. I guess it is because I don’t have a particular interest in technology that I go and look it up but I never actually hear about these things. I reason I think many people are not aware of the progressions we are making in technology or medicine is because it is not being advertised enough. The only reason I know about things like the IPad or other new computers or things of that sort, is because of the several commercials online or on television. If word of progression were to be shared more, then I think that more people would be aware and there would not be such“history illiteracy.” -HL pd9

  3. I thought that it was pretty interesting how they would talk about history and then about cars. The 1st to 3rd paragraph of this article didn't have anything to do with cars which got me confused on why there are pictures of cars but as I continue to read it, it made more sense. Honestly, I was very confused when it started to get in debt about cars specially the Audi R8 5.2 FSI Spyder. I tried to understand what it was saying but i got very lost. I don't even know what spyder means but i found the beginning of the article to be true. No one has every stop and think about the time period that they are living in and and imagine that they are apart of history. To the question asked above, I would not have recognize history when I am experiencing it. I guess that know that I am thinking about it that we are in history since many things have gone wrong in this country such as USA having economic issues.

  4. I don't think we would be able to recognize history while we are experiencing it because as humans we all have different perspectives and bias so not all of us would think certain events impact history. We can see how our technology is being improved day after day however. In this article we see this amazing car one would only dream of wanting. I felt at times, there was much exaggeration but i think in today's society things are changing and improving. Cars are no longer just cars they are powerful machines. We may not distinctly see history while we are experiencing it but it is occurring all around us whether we know it or not.

  5. This article was written in english. But to me, it seemed like a totally different language. It was like history talk and car language combined; the two things I don't understand at all. However, I did manage to understand what the article was trying to get to. I think it was trying to say that people tend not to realize the things we use or do everyday will become history. I agree with that statement because during hurricane irene, nobody stopped to think while their basement flooded, hey. we're going to be on the news! So to answer this question, no. I wouldnt recognize history when I experience it.

  6. Honestly, I didn't enjoy this article too much. I started loosing interest after the 3rd or 4th paragraph since I know absolutely NOTHING about cars. But it did spark a thought in my mind about history itself. It's so true that history is in the making all around us and we don't even realize it. Something I think is completely ordinary for my life may end up being the stepping stone of something huge in a couple of hundred years. It really got me thinking. So minus the brain wrecking car vocab. I enjoyed this article.

  7. For a person who knows almost nothing about cars, this article was pretty confusing to read. I sort of got lost with all the car talk. For example, it states, "This engine, punching out a nice, even 100 hp per liter (525 hp at 8,000 rpm) and 391 pound-feet of torque, is a slightly detuned version of the whirly bit in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4." I had no clue what that meant because I do not know any car models. However, it was interesting to see how this Audi R8 5.2 FSI Spyder works. I originally liked Audi cars because they were pretty but knowing that this car is pretty AND has good balance, power and maybe the finest gasoline is almost unrealistic. But on the other hand, this is based on one's point of view so the only way to find out if it's true is to test it out myself. Also, in the article it says the brakes are so good that it will "unravel your tongue" is good for a driver that is not so experienced.

  8. History is in the making no matter what you're doing. The smallest of actions are all part of history and so you won't recognize it when it happens. In the article it was said that the Audi is an extremely fast car but the driver wouldn't have much control driving it and plus it makes a lot of noise and jerks you back and forth. Then a few years later a new car is created which is faster, quieter, safer, and gives the driver more control of the car than any other car in existence. That car will go down in history as the first car to have it all. But to the people experiencing the release of the car it wouldn't feel like a mark made in history, but would feel like just any other new, exciting, must have product put into the market.

  9. the audi r8 5.2 FSI spyder is an amazing car. audi really step up in making this amazing gas power car. the v10 motor is amazing that it can produce 525 hp and 8,000 rpm. i think that this car will stay at the top of the list of amazing cars for gasoline. i also think that hybrids and electric cars will start over power gasoline cars. the new porsche is a perfect example of what electric cars will become. the new 2012 car has more hp and goes 0-60 in 3.2 sec thats amazing. i personal think that the r8 is a great car and it will stay a great car.

  10. I did enjoy reading this article not only because I like cars, but because it also made me think. I especially enjoyed the part when the writer talked about how a Roman living in the height of the Roman Empire would not notice the significance of the time period he was living. I would definitely agree with that because I think that it is hard to take a step back form life, and understand where you are in history. I also think that because you are used to the normal progress that is occurring in your life, it is difficult to understand the significance of the time period in which your living as opposed to someone who is studying the time period in the future.

I have mixed feelings on this article. It starts out with a deeply descriptive paragraph explaining that people are ignorant to the possible fact that the prime of their own era might be happening during their lives. Then the author continues to relate this thoughtful anecdote to a car. He mentions the likely to become obsolete gas tanks, then spends the rest of the article talking about details of the car. Even if this article was posted a year ago, I don't see who other than car-lovers would enjoy this article. Fortunately, it was alright for me because I actually enjoy seeing nice cars like this. He mentions a lot of specifications as well as positives/negatives on the car. The only thing bugging me about this article is that it seems like a long advertisement.

  12. this is a very nice can but i feel like Dan Neil is giving the car a better review then it really deserves, their are so many other cars that are good in all aspects that weren't mentioned in this article - JL period 9

  13. Honestly, I wasn't able to bring much attention to the article, though the writer was funny and used nice imagery.... it was a bit of a boring read for me. Maybe it's because I know nothing about cars and.... could honestly care less. But the writer brought up an interesting point in the beginning. It's TRUE that we don't know what the height of a certain aspect is until AFTER the fact. It's also interesting that he does look at things from a neutral standpoint, whereas in the end he does say there are cars with better speed or something. Usually when people are so obsessed with something, their viewpoint is the only thing they see.... ah, well, just gives me more information ^^

  14. I know approximately nothing about cars, other than the fact that they bring me to school in the morning, so this article was a bit of a blur to me. The introduction on the other hand posed a very interesting point; the fact that we won’t know we’ve met “history” until it has passed. In most cases I would agree with the author’s perspective. We most likely wouldn’t know that history has been made, until years into the future when we look back and muse at all the important aspects that made up a particular decade or time period. In some unique cases though, the moment the occurrence happens you will know that history has been made. For example, 9/11. People who experienced it firsthand knew the moment it happened (after they got over the shock) that history had been made, and for the next 100 or so years 9/11 will be mentioned in history textbooks all over the US. Moments like these are when we know that we have just crossed history’s path. Aside from his intriguing introduction, I also enjoyed how this article occasionally alluded to the world outside of cars, mentioning jokes about Poseidon, and the Roman Empire. Overall, this was a very humorous and quite informative article to read—even for a person who knows nothing at all about cars.

  15. Reaction By S.T WH 10 Pd.9 :

First of all, I love cars, especially the fancy sports cars with the leather interior. Though, I don't know much about the mechanics and how they work . In this article, I liked the intruiging facts about the Audi(Gunther), where it's well rounded and is brilliant in every category; speed, refinement and power. However, I don't agree that this is Gasoline's "finest hour" or that it will be outdated or completely replaced by the new technologically advanced sports cars. I do however believe that advanced technology will replace most of what we use.

  16. This article is definitely something unique. Usually when I read articles, I am forced to read them in a monotone voice and they make me fall asleep. This article was casual yet professional and full of information. There is no doubt a large amount of information on not only the Audi but also other cars similar or different. Plus, the information about the Audi is simplified for a person who may not know much about cars. Personally, this is a very good article for an understanding of the Audi R8 5.2 FSI Spyder.

I believe that the classification of an event taking place as to being history or not would be recognized depending on its linking previous events. For example, when Osama Bin Laden was killed by U.S. officials, I knew that it would be considered history. I think this because he was wanted by the FBI for many years because of the great loss he caused to the people of America. But, if an event takes place that I had no previous knowledge about then I would not be able to determine if that would be a historical event.

  17. I may not know much about Cars, but I understood enough from this article that the car I want is the 2012 Porsche 918 Spyder. The new supercar, and I probably would've taken it for granted if I walked right past it one day. I probably would've done that to every car no matter how fast it can go, or how easy the handling is. Do I know that there are huge car companies trying to up one another in gas efficiency and comfort? yes. Do I actually stop and think to myself, hey this might actually be a great moment in history, like the automobile age. no. Completely oblivious to all the things that are going down in the history books. Article was a bit long but it was worth the time spent on reading.

  18. Although I am not an major automobile person, I found this article readable and relatable. The voice of the writer really made me think about how fast history is being made and the world progressing. There are always new ideas that people will think of to better cars and other technology. Even though the 2011 Audi R8 5.2 FSI Spyder might be a big investment but a great choice, things to cars will be constantly be tweaked and improved so there might be competition to this 2011 Audi.

  19. This article was a little hard to understand for me because I'm not that into cars, but from a history standpoint, it is signifigant because it talks about how people don't realize they're making history while doing it. It is a good thing to not know that in my opinion because then people wont mess it up.

  20. To be honest, i dont really know anything about cars, so this article was like it was in a different language. I know that i'm supposed to know a lot about cars because im a highschool boy and that's one thing that highschool boys dream about all the time, but not me. Even though i didn't really know what the author of the article was saying, i still picked up a few pieces of information here and there, and they surprised me. From reading the article, I saw how much progress we have made in this world from just a decade or two ago. The way the author described the car and how it performed showed me that in a few fields, sometimes our technology grows exponentially. Also, I liked how the author wrote the article. He had really great comparisons, and made the article enjoyable to read even if I'm not too into cars.

  21. Even though this car seems to be great, all the specifications sound amazing but they are 180,000 a pop and they only plan to make 600 a year. Even if it is the start of new cars being super fuel efficient, they still aren't being made on a large enough scale, and they won't be anytime soon for it to actually make an environmental difference. The other thing is that its a 2 seat luxury car and even if you do get amazing mileage, the body being smaller and the fact that its only meant for 2 people and not say a family. Other then that the car looks great and is probably awesome to drive but I don't think the title is very befitting.

  22. I liked how the car was nominated for the best car but yet there are faster cars and better ones out. Also now a day, we have electric cars and hybrids but still the Audi R8 is an original gasoline motor that’s been around for ages. The Porsche 918 Spyder that the Audi R8 is after could have been made electric, but Audi decided to remake the spyder and put an old fashion gasoline motor in it. -samir licul
