  1. I think this article really shows how when people have had enough, they will do what it takes to bring about change. They have all gathered together united under similar governmental complaints to push for a democracy. I think it is important and the first step to a democreacy, for people to stand up and take action when they are unhappy with the way they are being ruled.

First off, this article really gave me a clearer and more thorough understanding of what has been occurring in the Middle East in regards to Egypt. All the commotion and news reports made it somewhat difficult to understand what was really happening during the revolts. Apart from this, I think it is quite interesting to see how interrelated this revolution is to that of Russia. Although I do not know too much about the context of the situation, it seems lie the “regime” was brought down similar to how the czarist power was brought down. The president Mubarak reminds me of Czar Nicolas in that both were forced to abdicate after immense pressure from the people and due to riots in the streets. Historically, setting up a thriving democracy is not such a speedy process. I really hope that Egypt formulates a prosperous democracy to instill rights in the hands of the people instead of creating a less just totalitarian state. The citizens must understand how long this might take a really must be willing to go through this change if need be. All in all, we will see how the situation plays out and I will definitely keep myself informed on the events that follow.

  4. I think its great that Egypt and its people finally overthrew thier dictatorship to hopefully get a new democrqacy. They are going through the era that the United States, France, Russia and most other nations have eventually gone through. I really hope that a stable goverment can be made, as egypt is important to us. Hopefully, this throw of dictatorship will spread throughout the middle east, creating less terrorists and a safer, more stable base. However, i do fear of the military soldiers who now without a king must make all the decisions, and feel that this is a reflection of the russain revolution. The king leaves, a new one comes on promising peace, and ends up becoming a dictator or in very high power. Either way, eventually they will get the goverment they deserve just like us.

  5. This article really opened my eyes to revolutions. Other than learning about it in class, revolution was something I never really thought about. However, even now, it's happening in the world. Revolution isn't just a thing of the past; it's something that could occur even today in the modern world. Just as how in previous revolutions, the people of Egypt were unsatisfied with their ruler and so, overthrew him. I finally realized that something that seems so far away like revolution, is occurring.

  6. This article is really surprising. I have never actually thought about revolution. We have learned about it in the past like the American revolution and other revolutions. I thought revolutions were part of the past and that they didnt happen now. After reading this article i realized that many countries are changing and due to the economy going down many people are getting annoyed and angered. I am afraid that in the future, there will be a revolution in our country.

When I read about the revolution in Egypt, what first came to my mind was where all that money that the president had came from. Many speculations state that he has been leeching from the people for many years now and when the economy turned, the people thought that was the final spark. I was happy to know that when the people bonded, they were strong enough to finally bring Mubarek to the stage of abdicating.

  8. After reading this article I'm surprised because i never thought about that there is still revolting now. I thought that we learn from history, so there won't be any bad gov't. After the revolution in Egypt, there will be more and more revolution near Egypt. People from other country will learn that they also have the chance of a better life and have a better gov't.

  9. It's good that young people are getting involved in the community and taking a stand for whats right and what they believe in. Revolution is a horrible thing but if Egypt wanted to even avoid one in the first place then they should listen to what the people want or at least make a change.

  10. This article really shows the power the people of the country have against the government/leaders. Learning about the Russian Revolution in class and now seeing this revolution occuring in Egypt present day is really eye opening. It shows that these kinds of things still happen and that they are not just stuck in the past.

  11. Its good to see the people of Egypt finally get the rights they deserve. After bveing in a state of emergency for 30 years i can't imagine the frustration they have to go through. Its good to know that people still hold the power to overthrow a leader that is not benifital all around the world. I hope Egypt's road to democracy is a good one and they can steer away from Mumbark's rule.

  12. Egypt was basically in a state of emergency for 30 years and the people were restricted of all their rights. It was like communism where the government controlled everything. But without the state of emergency, Egypt would be a democracy. It's disgusting to see a country treated like this. And what's even worse is that the dictator, Mumbark- controlled everyone and everything. He even went far enough to shut down the internet. And of course people would be angry from this and they were, so they protested for a month. All they wanted to be was free. And when he finally left from his "coma," all his moeny was gone because he took it with him somehow. After this, the army got power after he stepped down. Now they are on their way to democracy and i guess they are becoming more stabile everyday. The people of egypt were just so unpleased with their ruler and if i were in their shoes, I would have tried to overthrow him too. The idea of a revolution in this article really "spoke out" to me.

  13. When reading thism article I clearly understood what was occuring in Egypt. To be honest, I hadnt realized how much of a relief it was for the citizens of Egypt to overthrow their ruler until I read this article.

It really is interesting that although in class we learn about revolutions like the French Revolution or Russian Revolution that happened a long time ago, there really are revolutions going on right now and history is being made as time goes by. The wave of revolutions going on in Africa is accurately shown by quoting Khalid Shaheen, who said that "Egypt is setting a role model of dictatorships around us and democracy is coming." This reminds me of the revolutions that happened after the American colonies broke away from Britain. Suddenly, other colonies were able to get the confidence to revolt and suddenly had a reason to get their independence after years of injustice. Once again, history doesn't repeat itself but it rhymes.

  15. This article really helped my learn about all of what is happening in Egypt and the recent news. It really opened my eye when it comes towards revolutions because i had always thought that revolutions were a thing of the past. But, sure enough there are revolutions happening everywhere you just have to look for them. It really shows how the power of the people really stands.

After learning about revolutions in class and hearing about such revolutions that occurred in the country where my parents fled from, Iran, I always wondered how a revolution really was even though hearing about it. It really got my attention since Egypt seemed as if it was such a stable and strong country. A country where the people were satisfied and most of Egypt was prosperous, it really surprised me how a revolution could be stirred up literally overnight to cause such a big deal. I understand that the people would be upset to be under one ruler for so long and with barely any changes. I hope that everything well comes out for Egypt and the government is turned into something the people actually like and have a say in.

  17. All I can is say is "What great timing!" As we learn about revolution and the causes, we are fortunate enough to see/ learn from a real life example. Now I finally UNDERSTAND what Mr. Kramer has been trying to drill into our heads for the past couple of weeks. These people have been suffering enough under Mubarak. The rise of people strong enough to take a stand(the new generation with new thoughts)has finally arrived. This therefore makes me realize that revolution is real- it can happen at anytime, anywhere.
Other than the education aspect, I am very ecstatic for the Egyptians. The results that they were waiting for (for so long) has finally come. When the average Egyptian citizen has a say in his/ her government. I just hope that the outcome of the revolution is as good as the process- in other words that Egypt gets placed in responsible (democratic) hands.

  18. after reading this article ive notice that revolution was once a part of history, but its showns that revolution could happen in any country. i think that it was a bad idea for Mubarak to come out for a speach after he resigned, which is an addition to the revolution. from this article i learned, that revolution has occured though out history and is still occuring today

  19. i always knew revolutions were bound to happen, when the government isnt fair, things need to be fixed. thats what we learned in class anyways. the thing is i never knew that it could spring up in a few days and become completly well known. it seems that the Egyptian Revolution just happened overnight which seems possible because its the underlying casue that makes the people seethe with rage (like in russia after ww1). the only thing is i cant believe that its such a common thing when its looked at, when enough people are unhappy, a revolt occurs.

  20. After winning the revolution, the true test will begin. Nothing is harder beginning a new government after years upon years of "trusting" your government. I believe that Egypt should not rejoice until their government is strong and stable

History always repeats itself. This is comparable to Gandhi, and his peaceful protests against the British. "One by one the protesters withstood each weapon in the arsenal of the Egyptian autocracy — first the heavily armed riot police, then a ruling party militia and finally the state’s powerful propaganda machine." This is like how the Indian protesters acted as well. I am amazed that revolutions still occur today. I am glad that this autocratic government is overthrown, and that a democracy could take hold.

  22. I never knew that Egypt was going through this. Also, I didn't know that there were currently, revolutions that happened because I usually only heard about them from Histroy class.
It is great to hear that the people of Egypt finally got their freedom/rights/etc and their dictator finally steped down. Also, it is great to see that the people in Egypt were able to overthrow and gain their rights and freedom on their own, leaving the only option for Mubarak to abdicate.
